the average price of a baguette from the boulangerie is 1 euro

the baguette, like the price of a gallon of milk, is a good way to watch prices increase

prices of baguettes:

{rounded}

1970 = 0.60 francs

1980 = 1.70 francs

1990 = 3.10 francs

1997 = 4 francs

FRANCE CHANGES TO THE EURO

2008 = 0.80 euro cents

2011 = 0.90 euro cents

2013 = 0.90-1.00 euros

translating to dollars, that means that from 1970 to today

the price jumped from 0.10 euro cents ($0.13) to 1 euro ($1.31)

but there's nothing like a fresh baguette - yum !

these last few days are pretty busy, but it's probably better that way

Paris - Province

in France, there are 2 areas, Paris and the rest, which is called Province

France through the eyes of Parisians and the people of Province

my sis, Chelsey, Tonio and I in Paris

"Paris, are you familiar with Province?"

My Dad in Province {Cotignac, to be exact}

my beautiful Momma and me in Province

{remember, it's anywhere but Paris, so there's LOTS of Province}

I might add that the Côte d'Azur is in a catagory all of it's own,

but for now, let's just say, I prefer Province to Paris any day =)

today, meet the French TRICOLOR;

in British English TRICOLOUR;

in French TRICOLORE

blue and red were Paris' traditional colors

during the French Revolution, the Paris militia wore them with pride

white was later added to "nationalize" the colors,

though some saw it linked to the monarchy

traditional colors of Paris:

blue represents Saint Martin of Tours, patron saint of soldiers

red represents Saint Denis of Paris, Christian martyr, patron of Paris

the colors are also linked with the 3 main estates of the Ancient Régime:

blue: bourgeoisie

white: clergy

red: nobility

some also say that the colors represent the 3 elements of the revolutionary motto:

blue: liberté (freedom)

white: égalité (equality)

red: fraternité (brotherhood)

Lafayette's tricolor was adopted in July 1789,

creating a 'brief moment' of national unity.

4...four...for...fore...

4 days left - that has a nice sound to it =)

ready for another French tidbit?

4...

la semaine de quatre jours (the 4-day week)

preschools and elementary schools in France meet 4 times a week

wednesday is a day off,

a day of rest,

a day at the park with mom,

a day for sports or other activities

let's just say, if Nice had a Disneyland, i would surely NOT go on a wednesday

young kids are in school from 8:30am to 4:30pm M, T, Th, F

these long hours create exhausted children

the governement is looking into adding wednesday back in and shortening the days

something hard to imagine is that kids used to have school 6 days a week, saturday mornings were included - when Tonio and Sebastien were young, they had saturday school - crazy !

{not yet in France in the photo, but i wanted to share it with you}
i'm so blessed to have these two men in my life, especially Monsieur à Gauche
